For next week's class, we'll talk about (and play!) games and explore how they can be used to foster learning.
In preparation, please put some thought into an aspect of prediction that interests you (along the lines of your movie plots or something else) and brainstorm how you might use that, convey the ideas, or confront people with the experience of it through a game. If you come up with a prototype, GREAT -- we'll test it out on Monday. If not, we can talk about the process and flesh out your ideas.
As I mentioned, we'll also mess around with a simulation or two. The only reading this week is a Scenario Analysis that predicts and discusses different outcomes for possible contact with Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It should give you some food for thought in preparation for your responsibilities come Monday. Do read -- the world may depend on you.
Bonus (optional) reading: I'm also attaching an article that quantifies the benefits and harm of transmitting messages into space. This is an interesting attempt to represent unknowns for the purpose of establishing parameters around possible futures.
