Brainstorm a Visualization (10 minutes)

Think about your research question(s) or topic.

  1. Write down a message that you want your visualization to convey.
  2. Use the Financial Times Visual Vocabulary Links to an external site. to brainstorm the charts and graphs that will work best for this message.
  3. Make a rough sketch of what you want your visuals to look like. Allow your sketch to be messy.

Come back to this exercise later to continue editing and refining your sketch. Ask for feedback from your friends and colleagues. Ask a librarian if your institution has a visualization specialist.
