Biography

Dr Rupert Green For New York City Council

Dr. Green, who migrated from Jamaica 35 years ago, is a long time educators who has undertaken numerous activities to help improve schools and empower communities. He has been a fearless champion for quality education and has the scars to show for his activities. His actions caused Mount Vernon to employ its first Black school superintendent. Green is a recipient of the New York State Challenger scholarship for teachers, he was a national Association of Professional Black Business Women “Man of the Year” awardee, and a 113 Precinct Community Police honoree.

On moving to Queens from the Bronx, he immediately organized his Hollis and St. Albans communities, cleaned up abandoned yards, them organized annual Block parties, which have been going strong ten years.

Dr. Green spent 17 years as a NYC DOE educator before he was terminated for exposing educational fraud and miseducation of youth. He is the Co-founder of the Institute for Hands-on Science, Engineering, and Technology, a not–for- profit dedicated to providing STEM education to disadvantaged youth. He has organized a team of scholars and researchers from four nations to write for grants for the purpose. Green has undertaken numerous activities to help educate adults. As an active community member, he has his finger on the pulse of the activities that are of concern to community members. He has been a frequent guest on various radio programs to discuss matters of concern to his community. He seeks to become a city council member to use his skills and training to ensure his community is not being left out, and that the voices of people in his community are heard.
