Course goals:

This course examines how emancipation, solidarity, coalition, can be possible in our post-foundational modern world, and how we bridge the gap between social theory and social action.  The methodology of this class is political theory focused.

Course format:

This is a seminar, capped at ten students, focused on intensive reading and discussion as well as writing a 20-25 page research paper.

Typical enrollees:

Preference given to Social Studies Juniors but all are welcome.

When is course typically offered?

Fall

Assignments and grading:

Students are expected to write a 20-25 page final paper.  Assignments throughout the semester build toward this paper and include (1) forming a research question (2) learning the relevant literature and writing an annotated bibliography, (3) writing a prospectus, and (4) writing a draft of your final paper.  Students are also expected to attend and participate enthusiastically in class each week.
