Course goals:

Develop understanding of major works in Anglophone historical literature on modern Japanese history.  Prepares PhD students for qualifying exam (general exam) in modern Japanese history.  Prepares MA students for application to PhD programs in Japanese history.   Open to advanced undergraduates with prior study of modern Japanese history.

Course format:

Discussion course, focused on weekly assigned readings

When is course typically offered?

This is the last time I will be offering the course as I will retire at the end of the 2025-26 academic year and will teach different courses that year.
