AFVS 150A: Film Directing: Approaching Fiction Now

For admission to AFVS150A: Approaching Narrative, Introduction to Fiction Filmmaking please follow these instructions: 

The enrollment process for returning students begins April 3, 2024 and closes April 17, 2024. This class has an enrollment of 10 students. You must complete the application in order to be considered for enrollment in this class. You must submit a petition on my.Harvard in order to officially enroll. Notifications of acceptance and waitlisted students will be emailed. If you choose to accept your place in this class, please enroll through my.Harvard ASAP. Waitlisted students will be notified on a rolling basis as places become available in the class up to the end of the day April 17. Returning students must enroll by midnight April 17th and will have the opportunity to add/drop beginning August 19. 

First year admitted Ph.D. students, incoming freshman and all other incoming students can begin to enroll on Monday August 19. At this time, students who may not have had the opportunity to enroll before April 17 may also be offered a place in the class.

This class is an intermediate level filmmaking course. Priority will be given to AFVS concentrators and students with an AFVS secondary who have taken a filmmaking course in the department before. AFVS 50, AFVS60 or two other AFVS courses in video or film production. Students who have never taken a film class before or students who work with another medium are encouraged to apply! Curiosity is a must!


AFVS150: Film Directing: Approaching Fiction Now will be concerned with fiction filmmaking practices and is also open to, and in some respects encourages, rooting those practices in non-fiction, personal experience and imagined realities.
