ENGLISH CTV: Writing for Television: Developing the Pilot: Workshop
Description
Pilots are incredible beasts. Designed to succeed as an individual episode of television as well as set up an entire series, a pilot requires an understanding of dramatic construction, a bold imagination, and the ability to envision an entire world. To write a pilot demands a willingness to continually reassess and revise work and take chances. In this class we will learn about various models of pilot construction—comedic, dramatic, non-traditional, cable, limited, broadcast, streaming—as we introduce ourselves to writing for TV. The class will read and watch many pilots including: Glow, P-Valley, Stranger Things, Breaking Bad, Atlanta, The Good Place, and others. Using exercises, research, and class discussion we will help each other conceptualize, outline, write and revise a series pitch and a pilot. Most importantly, we find our voice.Course goals:
