  • Confirm you have the necessary working equipment (i.e. webcam, microphone, ID, printer, scanner, etc.)

This is subject to the exam configuration set forth by your instructor. Not all exams or courses will have the same configurations.
  • Visit https://speedof.me Links to an external site. to test your current internet connection and if it meets the recommended minimum speed of 5 Mbps.
  • Use a wired internet connection if possible: wireless internet is more prone to disconnections and latency.
  • Check your computer and internet browser to make sure they are up to date
.
  • If you have approved accommodations for the exam, verify your exam accommodations with the Accessibility Services Office and teaching staff.
  • If you're using a laptop, be sure it is charged before beginning the exam. Keep your laptop plugged in during the exam.

  • Note the exam window and exam time allotted.
  • Clear your browser history, close all unnecessary programs, and restart your computer before your exam.

During the Exam

  • Have Harvard DCE Online Support contact info handy
.
  • Do not open your Canvas exam in multiple windows or tabs. Competing browser sessions interfere with how Canvas saves your quiz responses.

  • Keep an eye on the little timer on the right side of the exam page for how much time you have left
.
  • Once you enter the exam, the clock begins to run, whether or not you are in the exam.
  • Do not click the Submit button until you have completed the entire exam.

Oh no something went wrong!

  • If you are unexpectedly removed from the exam for any reason before the timer has expired, try re-entering the exam immediately.
  • If you see a warning message about a connection issue during your exam, you should exit the exam, check your internet connection, and try re-entering to avoid losing work.
  • Call Harvard DCE Online Support immediately for help and to log an issue occurred
.
  • For immediate assistance after Harvard DCE Online Support hours, contact Canvas directly via Chat by clicking Help from the left hand menu in Canvas.
